The Federalist Papers contain 85 short essays from Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay that were published in the New York newspapers to defend the US Constitution, and persuade voters of New York State to support ratification of the U.S. Constitution. They are said to be written, because some states preferred the Articles of Confederation instead. The Federalist Papers were demonstrating the need of a Union, and the insufficiencies of The Articles of Confederation. These essays showed that The U.S. Constitution created a republican form of government, which has, checks, and balances. This Republic would protect individual liberty, property for all citizens.
