The following is a short overview of the basics on how to go about voting in a Republic form of government. My intention is to get you thinking and to help educate yourself. America is about the individual and taking responsibility for ourselves. We need to guard our freedom with knowledge and of the correct kind not the distorted kind.
Why do we vote? To exercise our freedom.
How should we vote? First you need to figure out what system you believe in. There are two systems:
1. Socialism = government control of the tools of production (government controls the businesses)
2. Freedom = enterprise free of government interference
Socialism has many faces, which include: Communism, Nazism, Fascism, Democratic Socialism and Fabian Socialism.
You can go to the National Center for Constitutional Studies http://www.nccs.net/ go to Newsletters and choose February 2010, to learn more about the many faces of socialism.
Freedom has only one face: FREEDOM.
However, with freedom comes a personal responsibility to manage, maintain and police it. Freedom does not come free. It is We The People that has to insure the American experience continues on and that is by reading the words of our founders to understand where our freedom came from and how to protect it.
Here is a Spectrum showing you the difference between government control and complete freedom. Our Founders put us a few steps before the middle; protecting us from Tyrannical Rule and Anarchy. Use this spectrum to judge where a nation falls.

What immediately takes away our freedom? Taxes – the higher the taxes, the greater the governments control, the bigger the government gets, the more power they obtain and the less freedom the people have.
In the United States up until the 1950’s, we were at the 20% mark. Government took 20% of a persons’ income. People put 80% of what they earn in their pockets. Today the government takes 40%, only 60% goes into our pockets. (percentages taken from Politics: Easy as P.I.E. by Bob McEwen)
Think about this - with all the current spending our Federal Government is doing how much do you think the government will have to take and how much will be left in your pocket?
Our Founders warned time and time again about creating debt and the gradual and silent encroachments of those in power. They warned against the drift toward the collectivist left, temptations that would bring Americans to abandon their freedoms and rights. These temptations include; the “welfare state” Thomas Jefferson wrote: If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy, taxation and deficit spending, governments involvement to provide equal distribution of wealth. With the right words these elected officials can make the before mentioned sound so inviting and innocent, but as history has shown us it has the opposite effect and intentions. America is a country founded on the independent person all sharing equal rights, endowed by the creator, but not necessarily equal outcomes.
What is the first action of defense against a growing government. How can we immediately squash its growth - by repealing the 16th Amendment and implementing The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 296) a nonpartisan legislation. Go to www.fairtax.org for further education.
There are many things that we can do to reduce the size of our government and I leave you to educate yourself on those ways.
If you would like to further educate yourself on how to vote in a republic, you can read Politics:Easy as P.I.E. by Bob McEwen. It is a very simple yet extremely informative book.
To conclude my short overview I recommend reading the Newsletter titled Eighteen Constitutional Questions to ask Candidates in 2010, http://www.nccs.net/ go to Newsletters and choose January 2010. It helps put things into perspective when deciding to vote for the republic candidate.
